Massage Therapy… & How it can help you!

Why do we need Massage?
For many of us, pain or restricted movement can limit our lifestyles. Causes range from sports injuries, accidents, repetitive action, or simply the stress and tension of every day living. Quite often our emotional stresses take up residence in our bodies, and massage can be an excellent and lasting form of relief.

How does Massage reduce stress?
Massage improves the body's circulation, eases muscle pain & tension, assists our body's immune system and promotes a feeling of well-being. All these physical factors combine to reduce our emotional and mental stress levels, which in turn give us more energy and reduces the chance of injury and illness.

How does Massage help muscle pain?
Massage works directly on the muscles, stretching and kneading actions stimulate the nervous system, causing muscles to relax and relieve tightness. Massage also assists the muscles to flush out any built-up toxins that can be stored after exercise, which eases pain and tightness.

How does Massage help injuries?
Massage releases tight muscles and loosens scar tissue, it increases range of movement in the body's joints especially after injury. This promotes flexibility and strength, and stimulates production of natural joint lubrication. This all combines to help prevent further injury.

Did you know Massage improves Posture?
Massage relieves muscle tension and promotes flexibility in our muscles, joints and connective tissues; it assists our bodies to return to a freer and more natural posture.

Massage relieves muscle contractions and pain caused by spinal abnormalities such as scoliosis & kyphosis. Sitting at a Computer every day changes your posture too and massage can help improve it.

How does Massage help with fluid retention?
Massage really does improve our body's circulation and assists our waste system to flush toxins and residual fluids from the body.

Because of this benefit massage is a fantastic form of relief for those suffering from fluid retention caused by surgery, inflammation, injury, hormonal imbalances or pregnancy.

What will a Massage feel like?
Therapeutic massage is always a very pleasant, relaxing sensation. Remedial massage is different and when working on areas of recent injury or chronic pain, you may notice some discomfort initially which will usually lessen noticeably in the first few minutes as the muscle tension begins to ease.

Massage Therapist's are trained to work within each client's comfort zone; communication is the key factor to ensure the treatment is right for you.

Making Massage work for you!
On your first visit you will be asked a number of questions regarding your general health and any conditions or problems you have.

This assists your therapist to assess any problem areas (they may do special tests and check for restricted movement, muscular and joint pain, muscle tenderness and posture), and this assessment will assist in structuring the best treatment plan specifically for you and your body.

A series of treatments may be recommended eg. A series of 6 may be needed to alleviate your problems. However, if you're just after a relaxing massage, then how often is up to you.

Is massage right for you?
Always let your Doctor know you have regular massages, there are certain conditions where massage is contra indicated, so advise your therapist if you are being treated for anything, communication with your doctor may be necessary.

What's best to do after a massage?
Drink plenty of water to help flush out the debris and toxins that have been broken up. It is good to walk for 5 minutes after a massage so the body stays in balance.

You may feel lethargic or fatigued, so rest and relax, try not to drink alcohol; it may have a stronger effect.

How can you help yourself?
Self-Massage is simple and free of charge. Learn some techniques so you can use them outside of your massage treatment.

Techniques include breathing, relaxing, stretching and gentle exercise. This will help relieve tension between treatments.

The lymphatic System is one of the five main elimination channels in your body along with skin, lungs, kidneys & bowels. It is a major route for the absorption of nutrients from digestion into the tissues and it is also your bodies metabolic waste-disposal system. It clears toxins, unwanted proteins and waste which can not be removed by any other means from your tissues and cells. These are by-products of metabolic wastes, stress, dead cells, metals, in organic substances and other assorted debris which your cells cast off.

Major functions of the Lymphatic System: Maintains connective tissue to optimal state, carries toxins out of interstitial spaces, helps transport lymphocytes and hormones throughout the body (immune reaction), filter for harmful substances & bacterial infection, maintains balance of fluids in the tissues & recovers substances that have escaped into the tissues die. proteins.

The Lymphatic System has no pump, its nourishing, water balancing and eliminative functions are dependant upon muscle contractions, diaphragm breathing and body movements. It is common to develop a somewhat sluggish lymphatic flow, causes being inactivity, consumption of inappropriate food & beverages and reduced water intake. All these factors stress the lymphatic system.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a light technique designed to stimulate the circulation of lymph to speed up the removal of wastes from all over the body. It works wonderfully on the nervous system by reducing sympathetic activity, allowing para sympathetic activity, stimulates the defenses of the immune system and increases the flow and volume of lymph fluid. People will often feel the results for as long as a week.

& Universal Energy Massage

Japanese acupressure /Oriental Massage

Traditional Eastern Asian Diagnosis & massage
This massage is delivered with no oil, your clothes on and performed on the floor, or low table working with the 12 main meridians (lines of energy throughout the body).

Shiatsu is a "Healing art" whose major types are acupressure, shiatsu massage, and Zen Shiatsu. Its theory posits ki ("vital energy"), meridians ("energy pathways"), and tsubos: "vital" points or "holes" on the body that are susceptible to healthful stimulation. "Shiatsu" is the abbreviation of a Japanese word that literally means "finger-pressure treatment" (shi means finger, or fingers, and atsu means pressure).

A Pulse Diagnosis, Tongue Diagnosis, Back shu point and stomach hara Diagnosis is taken prior to and after each treatment.

Shiatsu Pressure is applied along meridians that indicate deficiency or excess in energy & balance yin and yang within the body, dispersing any blockages allowing your energy to flow freely, increase vitality and well being.

Traditional Eastern Asian Medicine - TEAM Identifies 5 ways that Qi manifests itself in the universe as the five elements. They are:Fire, Water, Wood. Earth and Metal. As with all things in the universe, the human body is influenced by the energies of these five elements. Imbalances in the energies of one element will show in the organs and meridians dominated by that element.

Each element is also associated with an emotion, a body part, a body outlet, a sense, a flavor, a sensation and a Season. The elements interact with each other - Fire produces ashes to become Earth, Earth produces metal as ore. When metal is heated it becomes fluid (like water). Water allows wood to grow. Wood produces fire when burned. The arrows in the very center of the diagram show a control cycle of the elements. Too much of one element may lead to a weakening of the corresponding one.

Try aTraditional Eastern Asian Diagnosis & Shiatsu massage, it is a wonderful way to shift and move energy and increase vitality.

Traditional Chinese Medicine dates back to the Shang Dynasty 1000 B.C. The philosophy which underlies Chinese Medicine, is developed from observation of the world of nature.

The Chinese use to explain health and sickness in terms of the body's harmonies and disharmonies. Balance is just as vital within the human being as it is in the universe. This involves constantly readjusting energy forces.

Everywhere in nature there is dynamic interchange. This takes place within the change of seasons, the Chinese medical system draws extensively on these metaphors. This is most fully articulated in the system of the "five elements".

Qi or Energy flows through the universe and through its microsm - the human body. The Human body is seen as an energy system in which various substances interact to create the whole physical organism. These basic substances are Qi, Jing, Blood, Body Fluid & Shen.

We are born with inherited Qi and gain Qi from food we eat and air we breathe. Jing is our essence, while Qi is our energy, Jing is our vital force, from pre-birth to death, it can determine our constitution.

Tu ina - Chinese Massage - at - $70 per hour

Chinese Massage ~ The Art of Tuina

Chinese massage is based on a theory that the body is networked by a system of pathways which function to transport energy (Qi) and blood, to regulate yin and yang, protect against external pathogens and to link the internal organs with the exterior. Blockage in meridians causes pain and is intimately connected with all health problems. These pathways link and balance the body's various organs. The Chinese believe that good health stems from a free flow of energy or Qi throughout the body and stagnation will bring pain and illness.

Tuina has a long history even by Chinese standards, predating acupunture. 4th Century BC texts on Tuina first appeared and today it takes place in most Chinese Hospitals. Japanese massage ~ Shiatsu, originated from Chinese Massage & Peter Henrik Ling who developed Swedish massage in 1813 studied Chinese Massage techniques.

Tuina techniques are:- pushing, holding, pressing, rubbing, rolling, twisting, vibrating, traction, mobilization and rotation.

Sotai (Sotai Therapy): - at - $70 per hour

Sotai is done with a client and therapist and it gives your body extra range of motion by way of breathing and moving / resisting in specific directions to enhance flexibility, reduce pain and increase mobility.

"Natural" system of bodywork developed by Keizo (Keiji) Hashimoto, M.D., in Japan, and endorsed by Kenzo Kase, D.C. It purportedly enables one to adapt to one's environment by "harmonizing" breathing, eating, thinking, and moving. Sotai uses a "sensitive point" on the "liver meridian" (an alleged channel or pathway for "vital energy"). The word "Sotai" combines two Japanese characters: So, which means "to manipulate," and Tai, which means "body."
