Plagiocephaly (flat spot on head) (Pronounced: Play-gee-o-kef-a-lee) means a mis-shapen or uneven (asymmetrical) head shape, this does not affect the development of a baby's brain, but if not treated it may change their physical appearance by causing uneven growth of their face and head.
Tortocollis can also cause this condition. Torticollis is caused by an asymmetrical tightness of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and this condition is the third most common musculoskeletal deviation in the newborn after dislocated hips and clubfeet.
I noticed my newborn daughter was born with a flat spot on the back of her head. I mentioned it to my doctor and he said we would monitor it. Four months later I asked my doctor about it again, I wanted to make sure her head wouldn’t get worse, so he referred me to a paediatrician ($280) he talked to me about the above conditions and referred me to a physiotherapist ($70)....... reply to find out how to prevent this with your newborn baby.
